Dr. Allen Chin

Dr. Allen Chin is a certified therapeutic optometric glaucoma specialist. After graduating from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999, and then graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 2003. Dr. Chin's training has had an ample focus on the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases. His rotations brought him to some of the top ocular disease treatment and surgical centers in the United States. Dr. Chin studied at Bascom Palmer Eye Hospital in Miami, Florida, and was commended as completing training 'with honors' from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and Omni Eye Services in Atlanta, Georgia.

During his optometric training, he was also able to maintain membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the International Optometric Honor Society, for his entire four years in Optometry school. Dr. Chin loves the practice focus on specialty contact lens fits like Keratoconus, Multifocal, and Orthokeratology. He is a certified lens fitter of over fifteen types of specialty hard and soft lens designs and also many different orthokeratology lenses including Paragon CRT and Bausch and Lomb's VST. In addition to the practice of specialty contact lenses, he also sees patients for the treatment of glaucoma, eye disease, and pre and post-op LASIK surgical care. Dr. Chin's goal is to not just provide the best eyecare anyone could expect, but to make a commitment to improving every aspect of his patients' health. Faculty Positions: Dr. Chin serves as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member of The New England College of Optometry, The Rosenberg School of Optometry, and The Arizona College of Optometry at Midwestern University. Recent Clinical Research: Dr. Chin helped complete a clinical evaluation of a new hybrid contact lens designed for the treatment of advanced keratoconus for the SynergEyes contact lens company in the Spring of 2009. His beta site study data provided input for design modifications for the next generation Clearkone Keratoconus Hybrid Lens (released to Eyecare practitioners in the fall of 2009). In the past, Dr. Allen has served as a National Board Examiner. This allowed Dr. Chin to serve the public and the profession of optometry by administering, scoring and reporting results of clinical skills which asses the competence of optometry school graduates for licensing every year. Dr. Chin is an active member of the Scleral Lens Education Society, Harris County Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association.
